Ghana
Our Summer Youth program in Ghana this year is a public health awareness project. The project will focus on HIV/AIDS awareness, prevention, how to find help, facts vs myths and more. Working in partnership with the Almond Tree Group and Theater for a Change, the sessions will be delivered in an innovative and interactive manner. Skits, role playing activities, games and stories will all be used to deliver and reinforce the material, and maximize the communication and retention of the subject matter. The presentations will take place at junior and senior secondary schools.

Accommodation
During orientation and the week of project work, volunteers will be staying at our BaseCamp Center in Accra. Located minutes in the Kaneshie district, BaseCamp Ghana is conveniently located for easy access to restaurants, shops, a market and anything you may need.
BaseCamp Ghana is a large 2 story center, with a capacity of 36 guests, with both shared or private accommodation. There is a large common area on the main floor for guest use, complete with movies, books and games. 11 guest rooms, each with a private washroom, provide ample living space. The rooftop patio is an ideal place to take in a view of Accra, and spend some downtime. 4 private balconies on the second floor also offer a nice space for some alone time. Wireless internet is available throughout the center, making it easy to stay in touch with friends and family back home.
Meals
Meals are prepared and eaten at the BaseCamp Center in Accra. The meal plan consists of local dishes, which can be modified to accommodate any food allergies or restrictions (with advance notice). Preparing and eating fufu is definitely a must do for any visitor to Ghana. Breakfast generally consists of coffee and tea, fruit, cereal, toast and eggs. Lunch during the work week will be a packed lunch that will be eaten at the placement site. Dinners will be shared as a group at the end of the work day.
Transportation
Transportation each day for the project will be using local transportation, with BaseCamp accompaniment.
Transportation to/from the Cape Coast for the final weekend will also be via public transportation, accompanied by a BaseCamp staff.
Weekend Activity
At the end of the project week, the group will travel with a BaseCamp staff to Cape Coast. The weekend will have you walking among the tree tops on a canopy tour at Kakum National Park, visiting with the residents of a crocodile sanctuary, and taking in a tour of historic Cape Coast Castle, among other things. Finish the weekend off with some quality time at the beach prior to returning to Accra and getting ready to head home.
