Peru
This years summer youth program in Peru is a school improvement project. Many of Peru's government funded schools are in low income neighborhoods, and they do not have the funds available to address many infrastructure needs. Classroom conditions, play areas, desk and chairs, are all areas of need for many of these schools. The goal of this project is to complete the renovations to improve the state of current classrooms and play areas at as many local schools as group numbers allow. Tasks may include painting, construction (under the supervision of a professional), repairs to existing furniture, as well as activities with the students.
Project Dates

Accommodation
For the duration of the project, volunteers will be staying at our BaseCamp Center in Lima. BaseCamp is located in the beautiful and vibrant district of Miraflores. Miraflores is located on the ocean and is known as one of the most comfortable and safe parts of Lima. BaseCamp is located just minutes from Park Kennedy, and provides easy access to banks, restaurants, and of course the beach. All of this, and more, within walking distance of the center.
Meals
Meals will be prepared and served at BaseCamp. The menu consists of local dishes, and can be modified to make accommodations for any allergy or food restrictions(with advance notice). In addition to the delicious meals prepared and eaten at BaseCamp, you will also have a packed lunch provided, to take with you to your placement each day.
Transportation
Transportation to the placement each day will be via local transportation, with BaseCamp staff accompaniment.
Transportation to and from Huacachina for the weekend activity will also be via public transportation with BaseCamp staff accompaniment.
Weekend Activity
After the first week of work, volunteers will spend the weekend in Huacachina, a true desert oasis. Sand boarding, dune buggies, desert tours and more await you at this unique and memorable destination.
