Reading Week 2010

Our Reading Week projects are a great opportunity to do something different during your time off. These short term projects have been developed to ensure that a group of volunteers can have a positive and lasting impact in a short period of time.

Each project follows the same general itinerary, with the first couple of days in country spent in orientation and training to ensure you are prepared for the project, the next five days are spent working on the project, and the final weekend is an adventure excursion allowing you to further explore the country. Our Reading Week projects for 2010 run in two sessions, to accommodate the schedules of different schools.

PLACEMENT HIGHLIGHT

Costa Rica - Conservation


	Providencia Eco-Trail Initiative The park is largely undeveloped - providing an opportunity for sustainable ecotourism in Providencia. The community of Providencia has received permission from the park to build a nature trail, and to conduct guided walks and hikes with ecotourists interested in learning about the ecology and flora/fauna of the regional cloud forest. This opportunity would provide much needed income to community members, while sharing the beauty of the region in a sustainable manner. Building the trail is a massive undertaking, and would greatly benefit from the committment of a group of volunteers willing to build trail while getting the chance of a lifetime to spot quetzals, learn about one of the worlds most unique ecosystems, and provide a positive income source for the community of Providencia.
